Hello crafty people !
Today, I want to spread some love… and what a better way than a customized craft <3 ! Time to craft a Surprise Heart Cracker !
It’s a mix between origami, fortune cookie and surprise cracker ! Yes I know you surely think that I’m crazy about surprise crackers !! But they are so awesome, right 😉
Anyway I made them in February this year for Galentine’s Day and I chose a classic blue color like the Pantone color of the year. But that’s another subject that we might be talking… another time !
If you’re reading my post in English, I don’t think I need to explain to you what is Galentine’s Day !
But for me, it is a completely new celebration and I love it ! The american culture seems to me very festive ! I feel like there is something to celebrate every single day ! I even found out a national day calendar website where you can get a glimpse at all the national days celebration.
And who says celebration says craft – at least for me !
So I decided to make a little something special for my craft’s sister, the DIB gang 🥰. And here it is this amazing paper-folding that I imagined like a fortune cookie !! Indeed the point is also to slip inside inspiring notes to make them feel stronger or simply to let them know how special and precious they are for me ! For a lunch or dinner, you can even use it as a place card and why not use your hand lettering skills to write on it your guests’ name !
So let’s get diving into CRAFT…
And all you need is :
- some colorful papers (origami one, or just plain/patterned paper’s sheet that you can cut at the size you want). Here I used a text weight paper from Paper Source.
- your fingers or a bone folder.
Step 1 : Start with a square (mine is 8 x 8 inch) but it’s really up to you, you can vary sizes !
We’ll start by folding medians : fold the square in half to shape a rectangle, unfold it, then fold the other side but this time let a margin of about 1/2 inch as shown on picture 2. Picture 1 displays all the folding marks.
Step 2 : Time to insert your surprise notes… Then refold with the margin inside, picture 3.
Step 3 : Place the paper-folding opening at the top, fold the two up corners to shape a triangle as showed on picture 4.
Step 4 : Then fold the two inside corners toward the opposite triangle diagonals, picture 5, mark creases. And unfold.
Step 5 : Turn the paper-folding tip down. This time fold the two up corners toward the creases previously marked, i.e right in the center of the triangle, picture 6. Mark creases, picture 7 below.
Step 6 : You can already see the heart shape ! Now, you have one top gap in each small triangles insert inside the back paper to obtain the folding as on picture 8.
You can choose to bow the four edges at the top, picture 9.
Last step, blow inside the tip of the heart to give it some volume !
Et tadam your Surprise Heart is done !!
With this craft, you can also get the chance to practice colorful drawing or lettering ! The only limit is your imagination ! Why not twist it for mother’s day, use another color…
